Teasing Machine, who looked to be in the box seat to claim the Rolex Sydney Hobart on IRC, and Celestial were both defeated by the Derwent this morning as they drifted to the finish well over five hours beyond what was first estimated.

Comanche has done it. Following a retirement, and getting themselves back in the race, the boat from Newport R.I. has won the Rolex Sydney Hobart on line honours, the first international boat since Alfa Romeo in 2009.

The weather for this year’s Rolex Sydney Hobart start was of great media interest this morning, with one model yesterday showing conditions similar to the brutal 1998 Hobart. This is thankfully unlikely. The launch of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race (RSHYR) for 2015 was held today at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia.
