The SOLAS Big Boat Race for 2015 didn’t disappoint with four maxis as well as four of the smaller mini maxis playing on Sydney Harbour.
Wild Oats XI ran away with the race, followed by Rambler 88 and then Perpetual Loyal. The smaller boats were some distance behind following an individual recall for Chinese Whispers, Ichi Ban and the Volvo 70 Black Jack.
Chinese Whispers still went on to win on IRC, with ‘old faithful’ Brindabella winning on PHS.

SOLAS Big Boat Race 2015: Matt Allen
Matt Allen, chairman of the SOLAS Trust chats with me about the race, which boat (nice to have a choice!) he will be taking to Hobart, the TP52 or Carkeek 60, and of course the SOLAS Trust itself. Can’t wait for Boxing Day!
SOLAS Big Boat Race 2015: Mark Richards
Winners on line honours for the eighth time from ten starts, and after the recent modifications – was great to chat with Richo to get the low down on how the boat felt, and just what we can expect come Boxing Day!
SOLAS Big Boat Race 2015: Rupert Henry
More from the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia. Rupert Henry, owner and skipper of the new JV62 ‘Chinese Whisper’, and winner on IRC today chatted with me about the program, which involves a pool or squad of sailors as they go forward into the next year.
SOLAS Big Boat Race 2015: George David
Was great to firstly meet, and then to chat with George David, owner of Rambler 88 at the CYCA this afternoon. The boat was sailed exceptionally well today, to almost get Wild Oats XI at the top mark, before sailing a defensive race against the other 100 footers to take second on line honours. Great to have the Rambler 88 crew ‘Downunder’!
