The IMOCA 60 fleet are currently gathering at the Newport Shipyard to prepare themselves for the New York to Vendee race on 29 May.

I took the opportunity of being in Newport to head up the rig of the Canadian Ocean Racing team’s IMOCA 60 “Oh Canada” yesterday. It was a great view of the Ocean Master’s fleet, but also of the other amazing boats that are currently at the Newport Shipyard. What a hive of activity leading into the Maxi 72 North American Championships, and the Newport to Bermuda Race in June.
Hopefully I will be heading south on board an IMOCA 60 tomorrow, but with the damage some of the boats have sustained it is unfortunately looking more and more likely that the promo race to NYC will be cancelled… I still have my fingers crossed as it would be a shame to not get a sail after all the preparation, but that is sailing as we all know it!
