33 South Racing is the new team on the block for the final leg Extreme Sailing Series receiving the wild card entry for Sydney. The team dropped past the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia yesterday to say hello, and I headed out for a sail as well.
Love the Extremes, and great to be back out on the water with Katie and Stacey, who have both been doing fantastic things in sailing this year, Katie Spithill is back on the Women’s International Match Racing Series, and Stacey Jackson wrapped up the Volvo Ocean Race with Team SCA moving straight on to Match Racing, and now the Extreme Sailing Series. I myself previously sailed with Katie and Stacey first with the Wot Chicks match racing team and then with the Australian Women’s Match Racing Squad leading into London 2012. Two exceptionally talented ladies that will no doubt lead the sailing team well for the team Principal Josh Chant who has been working hard on this project for over a year.
Here is my original interview with Josh back in 2014…
The all-Australian team will see the only female duo on the tour joined by Henry Kernot of Black Swan Racing, helmed by Keith Swinton on the World Match Racing Tour (recently second at the Argo Gold Cup in Bermuda) and Luke Payne, who has sailed this year with Trefor Match Racing on the World Match Racing Tour with Sehested of Team Vestas Wind, most recently winning the Energa Sopot Match Racing Event.
