Taking it on!

Well what a ride! For the past six weeks I have been taking on Tasar training, getting the 470 up to speed and of course the Sailing Chix with Nix radio show! About to go on air actually! My weekends have been radio show, then Tasar/470 double sessions on both days – so if I haven’t been in touch, you are more likely to catch me at Woollahra, or via social media! 🙂 Through the…

Sailing Chix

Quite a few adventures happening over the past month with the 470, match racing and a radio show which kicks off on Saturday keeping me more than busy! This long weekend I competed in the Australian Women’s Match Racing Championships at Sandringham Yacht Club. Team Zhik, skippered by Krystal Weir, with Kylie-Anne on main, myself on jib/pit, Tina Babbage in float and Ray Martin on bow managed…

Alignment

Well what a morning I had on Wednesday to cap off two sleepless weeks cheering on the Aussie sailors for the London Olympics. I was lucky enough to welcome home the athletes at the airport, before heading to Middle Harbour for the sailors welcome home!Yes still catching up on sleep – but was fantastic to see everyone come home and to celebrate the most successful Australian Sailing Team…

Cracking the top ten

The Tasar National Championshipsare done for yet another year and we managed to hold on! This was my fifteenth Tasar nationals… my first as skipper. We were the defending champions, and in reversed roles reached our goal of cracking the top ten! We finished the regatta off on the last day with an 8 and a 5 in very tricky, and at times very windy conditions. We could have done better…

Holding on

Second last day of the Tasar Nationals in Darwin. Three races to be sailed today with one left for tomorrow, and at the moment – looking windy! Sitting in 11th place after a few tough moments on and off the water, so doing our best to hold on and get into the top ten. The hand is doing well after a day off on lay day, where I sported a double layered blue surgical glove to keep out the water…

Ups and downs

Writing this from Darwin, where it is 24 degrees… definitely the place to be! The Darwin Tasar Nationals started today in an 18 knot sou’easter that was very up and down, and also very shifty. We were happy going into the racing, after rounding the bottom mark of the practice race yesterday in fifth, before heading home to look after my hand. The first race today had a few starts, even…

Darwin here we come!

A lot can change in a week! I ended up having microsurgery on my hand last Sunday to repair two cut digital nerves and a cut flexor tendon in my left hand. Not bad for a mornings work… So far, so good with the recovery. Thanks to all who crossed their fingers for me! Stitches are still in, while not ideal, racing does not start for a week yet, so I am hopeful I will be ready… just! We…

Fingers crossed

Well… just to keep up the variety in my posts, I am writing this from a hospital bed. Very slowly! Small accident yesterday in the kitchen has resulted in nerve damage of some kind. Currently awaiting surgery at the Prince of Wales hospital where they will attempt to repair the damage. Fingers crossed this happens today so I can be partially recovered for Darwin! Last weekend, we had a great…

Small wins

I can’t believe that we pack up the containers for Darwin on Saturday! I can’t wait to get out on the gorgeous waters of Fanny Bay for the Tasar Nationals! It is just over two weeks until we fly ourselves which is awesome! Our training is in full swing, even though the weather hasn’t been crash hot. Last weekend we were so lucky to have another two days of solid training. Happy…
