First show done and dusted

A massive thanks to all the adventurers who joined me as guests or listeners for my first Adventures of a Sailor Girl show on Sunset Radio! Over 115 people were listening in at one stage; fantastic for the first show, and super motivating for the team especially after months of the planning and waiting! I feel incredibly lucky to be able to share so many stories from on and around the water from…

Midnight swims

On the night or early morning of 21 January, some fellow adventurers (from the UK) and myself thought it might be a good idea to “explore” Rose Bay… Seemed like a great idea at the time… it was also cold… and raining (they felt quite at home!)! I was quite happy being clothed in an offshore jacket and my swimmers. But apparently that wasn’t good enough, and I…

Bridging perspectives

On 16 January 2014, I happened to be walking over the Harbour Bridge after work… definitely the best way to take in the view… and we all know I do like a little bit of an adventure! It was one of those right place right time moments. And, I had my camera on me of course! The Bridge is one of my favourite views of the Harbour… so walking over it can sometimes be both good and…

Tour de Harbour

Perhaps because I am crazy, or maybe I really am keen, I felt the need in December when I purchased my Spiral to sail from Woollahra, to Concord to race and back again. I left at 12.15pm, and arrived at 2pm for a 2.20pm race. I left concord shortly after 4pm and arrived back at Woollahra at 7.45pm. So… A big day… Perhaps because I am mental, I decided to do this again on 11 January…

FD and B14 Nationals

The Flying Dutchman and B14 Nationals were on Sydney Harbour from Woollahra Sailing Club in the first week of 2014. I was lucky enough to be out on the water helping out on the practice race day, and also a few other afternoons from my Spiral. View the few album on Facebook below. Post by Adventures of a Sailor Girl. Was especially fantastic to see Rob Douglass and Dougy Harris out there…

Blairgowrie Tasar Nationals

Over the Christmas and New Year period, Rob Douglass and I headed down to Victoria to contest our 17th Tasar Nationals (in a row)… Yes… that is a feat itself I know! It was a very tricky regatta, the practice race was blown out, we had light days, breeze on days, beanie days and sunburn days! We didn’t start off particularly well. After three general recalls and an eventual black…

Sydney to Hobart - Sailing Chix style

On Boxing Day this year I was again a part of the Sailing Chix broadcast of the Sydney to Hobart. Thanks to Andrea Francolini for the most awesome picture of the start below… It is always fantastic to watch the big boats as they head out of the Harbour, but I really love the chance to be able to talk to so many of the sailors before they head south on one of the most epic adventures there is…

SOLAS Big Boat Race 2014

On Tuesday 10 December, I found myself on Steele Point, just in time for the start of the SOLAS Big Boat Challenge. Let’s just say… it was a pretty spectacular view… Black Jack was able to lead around Shark Island, before Oats XI took the lead, with Perpetual Loyal close behind. On the downwind leg, Loyal opted to keep their Code Zero cranked, and sailed underneath…
